Considering the progress made in other continents, scientific research (fundamental and applied) in Africa is experiencing a rather substantial delay. Moreover, it still does not fully meet the real challenges encountered by the continent with regard to its societal and technological transformations. Scientific research in Africa and on Africa could benefit not only from a greater international cooperation among scientists, but also from academic and business partnerships on topics that better meet the needs of the continent. It is on the basis of these observations that a group of researchers and academics decided to create Africa Innovation and Research (AIR).
AIR is a Togo based research association. Its focus is on applied research and resulting innovation processes. It is not limited to any specific domains, but selects priority domains on a five year basis. Within these domains activities are selected by the AIR board in close cooperation with national and international experts.
